The multilayer composite materials such as strips and wires are widely used in chemical, electrical engineering, electronic, mechanical engineering, food and other industries, as well as in jewellery and medicine.

Bimetals and multilayer clad materials have high technological, mechanical and physicochemical properties. The base for the most bimetals is low-carbon steel (08кп, 08пс,08ю, 10кп,11кп, etc.), clad (coated) with non-ferrous metals and their alloys (aluminium, copper, brass, bronze, nickel, etc.). The coating thickness is usually 3-50% of the total thickness. The performance characteristics of such bimetals vary widely.

ЛЖЛ (brass-iron-brass) strip is used in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronic equipment (output wire-circuit boards, electric contacts, etc.).

МЖМ (copper-iron-copper) strip is used in precision machinery industry (traction equipment), electrical engineering (electric pins, fuses), electronic equipment (output wire-circuit boards, electric contacts, etc.).

НЖН (nickel-iron-nickel) and МЖН (copper-iron-nickel) strips are used in electrical engineering (current-carrying base of electrodes, enclosures of chemical current sources (CCS), etc.), precision machinery industry.

Copper-aluminium (MA) bimetallic strip is used for the manufacture of current-carrying connector assemblies, electric-contact tips, terminal tips, disconnector blades, connection of current-carrying wires, bimetallic contacts in electrolysis industries, etc.

Aluminium-copper bimetal (AM) combines high electrical and strength properties with a minimum consumption of expensive and scarce materials; aluminium-copper bimetal products are capable of operating at elevated temperatures and have high wear resistance of contact surfaces.

АЖА (aluminium-iron-aluminium) and АН (aluminium-nickel) strips are used in electric vacuum industry for vacuum tubes anodes as a substitute for nickel; they are also used for thermocouple tubes manufacturing. In automotive industry aluminium-iron-aluminium strips are used for the manufacture of clamps, couplings for connecting hoses, cooling system accessories, gaskets, cylinder covers, heat filters, reflectors.
